Week in Review

With all the commotion of the past week, I've not kept my promise to my faithful readers.  This is my week in review:

Last Friday, despite the ice-pocalypse that hit the Houston region, Mom and I hit the road around 11am to begin our trek back to Illinois.  Although there were detours and closed roads, we made it to Texarkana in one piece.  All the kids were on their best behavior, though Penny was a little noisy.  We found that she quieted down when I would sing - I didn't have much of a voice by the end of the day, as you can imagine.  Everybody behaved nicely in the hotel, though Cappy protected us when the people next door moved in.

Saturday's trip was an interesting one - we finally got Penny's med dosage correct, so she was an angel.  Honestly, they all were - it was more the trip itself and Acura's phenomenal navigation that put me in a bad mood.  (And, since I've mentioned it...seriously Acura?!  A $50,000+ vehicle and the navigation doesn't take you the same route twice?!  What is that nonsense?!  How about some consistency?!). Yes,  navigation didn't work so well for us.  Although I've made this trek in this vehicle before, it took us through Podunk Arkansas - full of 45mph speed limits, many stop signs and gas stations with two pumps, that gave you the option of regular or diesel and required that you pay inside prior to pumping.  Le sigh...
Once we finally got back on track (Thanks Chad!) I handed the keys over to Mom.  I was very ready to sit back and relax, and I enjoyed the rest of the drive.  I was very excited to get home and see my Elijah, Daddy & Chase.

Elijah looks great, just a much older version of himself.  It breaks my heart knowing that he's not going to be around forever.  I spent some quality time with Daddy & Chase and enjoyed a delicious Vic's Pizza.  It must be said, however, that Chase and I were already arguing in less than an hour.

I slept wonderfully in my pink bedroom, and woke up bright  and early to drop Penny off for her surgery.  I had plenty of things going on, but all I could think about was her.  I met up with Dr Bee for breakfast, which was a nice treat.
I had my hair cut and colored - it looks MUCH better now.  And I just hung out at the house until I had to go make some rounds and pick up Cappy from getting all handsome.

Tuesday was a boring day - I didn't have anything planned until 3pm, when I took the one-eyed boys to the vet.  I did manage to make a a Target and Old Navy run, preparing me for our shower.

Wednesday I was up bright and early to take mom to the hospital for her surgery - robotic total hysterectomy with rectocele repair.  The waiting room was insanely crowded, but I made myself at home.  And, although there wasn't any extra room , nobody sat near me.  I don't know if I just looked contagious or like a VIP, but they stayed the hell away from me.  After four hours in recovery, they finally got a room ready for mom.  We finally got her set up in her room and ordered her food.  I stayed there until I knew she had eaten and that I felt comfortable leaving.  Upon arrival, we decided our meal would be mcdonalds.  Talk about exciting.  I went to bed quite early that night, in preparation of busting mom outta there early.  I will say, having a room with a view ain't bad!

Since it appeared that she'd not be breaking out until after lunchtime, I went back home to talk a nap. Planned on picking her up between 1-2, and once I arrived she was ready to go- just needed the escort to haul her to the car.  The drive home was slow , mostly because I was being conservative about mom's battle scars.

By Friday, mom was feeling much better.  I just took my typical Friday =  lazy day.  I visited with my pec peeps, who I miss so very much, and picked up some delicious Monty's for lunch.  The remainder of the day was spent lounging around with the kiddos.

Saturday morning I woke up to nasty weather - and crossed my fingers and toes that Chad's flight wouldn't  be delayed.   After a Melocream donut sugar rush I went back to bed for a nice nap until it was time to head to the airport.
Once I arrived at the airport I noticed that the parking lot was quite slick, and did my best to remain upright on the walk in.  I jumped when Chad arrived, it seemed like we'd been separated forever.  It was so great to have him back.  The walk back to the car was much more eventful, as I did not remain upright.  Thank god Chad was with me, because I'm not too sure how I would have gotten back on my feet - between the ice and my balance being off, I was a sight for sore eyes.

We enjoyed dinner from Coz's and went to bed early, after calling the answering service at Dr Heaps office regarding the fall.  The doctor I spoke with reassured me that since I'd fallen on my butt everything was probably okay with CJ, but if I started getting crampy or had any leakage to go directly to the ER.  Thankfully, we avoided that disaster. (Though I'm fairly certain that had the on-call doctor been Dr Heaps, he would have sent me directly to the ER for monitoring)

And then there was Super Bowl Sunday...yuck!  Not my favorite day, unless you take into consideration that football is over!!!  I had my first baby shower (see next blog) and visited Grandma June for awhile, before gorging myself on Taco Bell and passing out mid-sentence a few paragraphs back.  :-).

Interesting...
